The Fascinating Geology of Greece –
A European Educational Project
This video project was entirely designed and created by geology students, with the support of SciencEscape at every stage of the process: preparing the shoots, handling the equipment, capturing footage, and final editing. This initiative is part of the European 4EU+ alliance, which brings together several universities to pool their resources and expertise in developing innovative educational and research projects.
The primary goal of this project was to train young scientists in science communication through audiovisual media. This format allowed them to better understand the importance of such an exercise in strengthening the connection between science and society, while also providing an opportunity to develop practical skills often absent from traditional scientific curricula.
Around fifteen geology students created an educational film about the fascinating geology of Greece. After an intensive five-day preparation program at Sorbonne University, they spent ten days in Greece exploring geological sites and filming on location, followed by five days of editing at the University of Geneva. They learned to write a storyboard, conduct interviews, shoot footage in the field, and master a professional editing software.
