ABOUT the film

For several years, a team of researchers from the University of Geneva, led by Dr. Joël Ruch, has been studying the complex mechanisms that control the movement of magma from the Earth’s depths to the surface through an underground network of faults and fractures.

Through this scientific mission conducted on the Big Island of Hawaii, the documentary delves into the work of volcanologists seeking to better understand how volcanoes function and the processes behind eruptions.

Their discoveries help improve our knowledge of volcanic activity and play a vital role in anticipating risks to the public.

Directed and produced by SciencEscape in collaboration with the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Geneva, this film highlights exceptional field research, bringing viewers up close to the forces that shape our planet.
